It is emphasized that there was no coronation ceremony in the Abbasid Caliphate. The caliphate was theocratic state and the Abbasids while carrying out genealogical legitimation, simultaneously legitimized political and religious power in front of their subjects. It is stressed that the members of the Abbasid dynasty and the caliph`s court were the first to take the oath of allegiance to the new caliph. The death of the caliph and ascension of the new caliph was announced to the subjects during prayer in the cathedral mosque by the reigning caliph himself and the oath of allegiance was also taken from the subjects. The author believes that in the provinces the accession to the throne of the new caliph was also announced during Friday prayers, and the arriving subjects also took an oath of allegiance to the new caliph.
