 ANNOTATION

The review dwells on an overview of achievements and certain shortcomings of the recently published monograph by a man-of-letter Sh. Tajiboev entitled as “Epithets and Principles for Compiling a Dictionary of Epithets in Persian-Tajik Poetry”. In the course of conducting the analysis of the chapters and paragraphs of the relevant monograph, the reviewer lays an emphasis upon the idea that the former in question as a scientific source is very important for understanding epithet as an independent means of poetic representation, the degree of its study in literary criticism, its history of origin and types, methods of its usage and resorting to this element of poetic speech in “Shah-Name» by Firdawsi. It is underscored that the first and third chapters of the monograph are of more theoretical nature, in which the author sets out his theoretical and critical views. It is emphasized that the second chapter of the work provides good basis for strengthening the author`s theoretical views outlined in the first chapter. It is mentioned that advantages of the third chapter of the monograph lies in the fact that it sets out the principles targeted at compiling poetic dictionaries, especially the epithet dictionary of Persian-Tajik classical poetry. The reviewer expresses his own opinion on certain omissions and shortcomings of the monograph as well.
