 ANNOTATION

Proceeding from information concerning medieval authors - Nizam al-Mulk and Kaikavus the author of the article canvasses duties of nadim. The author of the article points out that both authors were statesmen and only in their treatises a description of qualities required of nadim is given. That is why the data of these authors can be taken with confidence. Comparative analysis reveals commonality and omission of the authors. Alongside with this, in the process of analysis, data of Nizam al-Mulk and Kaikavus are also compared with other authors` ones, such as Nizami Aruzi Samarkandi and Baykhaki. It is stated that the ruler, observing subordination had to spend fun and drinking not with officials, but with nadims either. It is revealed that among nadims, personal nadims also stood out, who were even closer to the ruler. It is underscored that nadims were chosen from among the most educated people and they were considered the closest friends of the ruler.
