 ANNOTATION

The article analyzes the place and role of Timurmalik in the research of the academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences B.G. Gafurov. The author tries to show the formation and development of the views of this scientist on the history of the conquest of Khujand by the Mongols in 1219-1220. At the same time, special attention is paid to the analysis of the definition of the place and role of Timurmalik in national history. It is noted that the theme of the history of the defense of Khujand from the Mongol army and the definition of the historical role of Timurmalik in this struggle were first discussed by academician B. Gafurov in cooperation with A. Prokhorov in the book "Tajik people in the struggle for freedom and independence of their homeland." It is emphasized that after the publication of this book for more than 30 years B. Gafurov's vision of the historical place of Timurmalik was reflected in his subsequent scientific works - "The most ancient, ancient and medieval history", "Tajiks", etc. It is proved that the firm and final view of B. Gafurov to the historical place of Timurmalik is expressed in the book "Tajiks", in which the people of Khujand are regarded as the main organizers of this struggle, and Timurmalik, in spite of the one-sidedness of Soviet ideology, as a unique hero of national history.
