ANNOTATION
The article is devoted to the history of Russian translations of "Shahnameh" by A. Firdousi. Based on the study of literature on the research topic, the author of the article comes to the conclusion that "Shahnameh" was translated into many languages of the peoples of the world, that in Russia for the first time they turned to the study of the brilliant creation of Ferdowsi in the first half of the 19th century, that at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries there were separate poetic and anthological translations of fragments of the poem, that only thanks to the initiative of the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR Cecilia Bentsianovna Banu, edited by A. Lakhuti, managed to complete a colossal amount of work on organizing and publishing a complete Russian translation of Shahnameh (1957-1989). A significant contribution to the preparation of the publication was made by A. A. Starikov, the author of the essay “Firdowsi and his poem “Shahnameh” and a commentary on the verses of the poem.
