RUSSIA AND ARMENIA: HISTORICAL ORIGINS OF BILATERAL RELATIONS

ANNOTATION
The relevance of the study is due to the ongoing market changes on the world stage and the strategic importance of the development and deepening of Russian-Armenian relations, which are currently undergoing a difficult period. Today, when Russia is under pressure from the sanctions of a number of Western countries, the deepening of relations with existing allies and the search for new areas of interaction and mutually beneficial cooperation is of particular importance for all interested parties. The author studies the data about the mention of the presence of Armenians in Russia and about the visit of Armenia by travelers from Rus'. The purpose of the study is to study the origins and history of the development of Russian-Armenian relations from the first mentions to the inclusion of a number of territories of historical Armenia into the Russian Empire. The work uses historical-systemic and chronological methods to study the unity of gradually changing historical events. The author, having analyzed the sources and literature in Russian, English and Armenian, comes to the conclusion that Russia has formed the image of the defender of the Armenian people.
