 ANNOTATION

A new direction of complex research is proposed considering toponyms of the upper reaches of the Zeravshan Valley, which have a semantic load, in order to obtain information about the purpose, type, category of monuments in a chronological cut. Hereby, the names of archaeological sites are taken which have a clear definition of the type and category, description, dating, taken into account in the "Archaeological Map of Tajikistan". Only the names of archaeological sites are analyzed and all data of  the toponymy of the region are not involved. The category of toponymic oikonyms (names of settlements) reflects the possibility of considering them as a source and marker of the location of archaeological sites. The available material with the involvement of archaeological dating also helps to determine the penetration of the ethnic group and the spread of the language component in the names of localities in a given territory, as well as the consideration of toponymy in an integrated approach with archeology in a new interpretation.
