The given article dwells on the issue beset with professional and methodological competence of the future teacher of a foreign language. The teaching profession contains a set of necessary competencies that should serve not only the transfer of knowledge, but also their effective and successful perception by students.   In the article we will try to consider the theoretical foundations for the formation and development of the basic professionally important - methodological competence of the future teacher of a foreign language at the initial stage of the university
