ANNOTATION
In her article the author conducts a historico-philosophical analysis beset with the essence of patriotism and heroism phenomenon in the West referring to the XIX-th century on the example of Napoleon Bonaparte`s personality. The author analyzes a personality formation as a patriot within the framework of socio-political conditions and independent states, exclusively. Proceeding from Aristotle`s and G.V.F. Hegel`s definition the author determines the essence of passion in an individuality activity. Designing on the premise of a philosophical definition she reveals the true essence of patriotism and heroism. The author of the article adduces an explanation dealing with unity of the concepts of virtue, patriotism and heroism. A strictly dividing line is drawn between genuine heroism proceeding from patriotism and “heroism” based exclusively on subjective-egoistic motives defending only private interests, upon the whole. It is testified that Napoleon Bonaparte as the greatest commander and conqueror was not a patriot in his actions.
