ANNOTATION

The article dwells on literary translation referring to the first half of the ХХ-th century in Iran. The author adduces characteristics of literary translation and reveals peculiarities of poetic translation in Iranian poetry. In his article the author gives the main periods of literary and poetic translation. The author shows the applicability of the communicative - functional approach to the translation of poetic texts. He canvasses the significance of literary translation of productions for strengthening mutual relations between the West and the East in the sphere of spiritual culture. Owing to the translation of writers` and poets` literary productions of other countries into Persian the Iranians were able to discover new values in order to learn previously unknown forms of behavior. This can be clearly seen from the results of the translation into Persian of the literary productions belonging to the pen of Western authors referring to the first half of the XX-th century.
