ANNOTATION

The article presents the world experience of charitable activities. The features of the activities of charitable organizations in different countries are revealed. It has been established that the provision and receipt of private charitable assistance were important elements of urban life in Europe in the 19th century and were at the center of public life. An analysis of the historical development of philanthropy in various countries showed that philanthropy flourished even in countries with a poorly developed civil society and a small middle class. The study revealed the position that in developed countries charitable activities are supported by all available state means and methods, especially through legislative regulation of charitable activities.
