ANNOTATION
In this article, the geopolitical position of Herat and its surroundings in terms of the confrontation between England and Russia in the Central Asian region is analyzed and considered. The acquisition of the special importance of Afghanistan in English politics for Middle Asia is shown on the basis of English studies. This period was complicated by the fact that the changes in historical geography in the context of the struggle for hegemony in Iran on the territory of the Ottoman Empire, including in Afghanistan, were influenced by the alignment of forces in region It is emphasized that the struggle for a new market, useful minerals and cheap labor turned into antagonism between England and Russia. An important role in the escalation of relations was played by the "Herata" issue.
