 ANNOTATION

The article is devoted to the study of formation of a medieval city in Maverannahr and Khorasan, growth of cities in the period of developed feudalism, more precisely, during the reign of the Samanids, i.e. in the first Tajik state. It is noted that the 9^th century will be marked by the rapid growth of cities, the appearance of which completely changes, large trade and craft centers with a population of up to 50 thousand people appear. The author points to the growth of cities in the 10^th and subsequent centuries on the territory of rabads that appeared after the conquest of the Arabs, where the economic center of the city moved, and where monumental buildings began to be erected - caravanserais, mosques, mausoleums, etc. The influence of the expansion of handicraft production and trade in cities is emphasized on the development of urban culture and architecture, the migration of the rural population to the cities, resulting in a strong craft and trade layer.
