 ANNOTATION

The purpose of the article is to determine the significance of the topic of money as a marker of the era of industrialization in the novel entitled as "The Hero of our Time"by M.Y. Lermontov. The main method of research is comparative-historical one aimed at identifying and comparing the contexts in which the naming of monetary units and the situation of bargaining or transaction in the chapters of the novel vary. The scientific novelty of the research is aimed at identifying the influence of commodity-money relations formed in the era of industrialization on the actions of the characters of the novel and their motivation. As a result of the conducted research, the degree of devaluation of moral values and aberration of consciousness by the heroes and heroes of the novel, the motivation of whose actions is determined by the influence of the "industrial age", is determined. The conducted research will allow us to establish new features of the realism of the novel by M. Y. Lermontov.
