SUGHD IN THE VIII-TH AD: BETWEEN ARAB’S CALIPHATE AND TANG IMPIRE

ANNOTATION
The article dwells on the political history of Sughd referring to the VIII-th century A.D. It was a difficult period in history when Varorud found himself between two powerful states. Arabs invaded Central Asia from the west and troops of Tang Empire of China from the east. The struggle was for supremacy on the Great Silk Road. Sughd was at the center of this route and Sughdians played a very important role in international trade.The author shows the geopolitical situation of “Great Game” referring to the VIII-th century. Under these conditions, the rulers of Sughd were forced to maneuver between the great powers. The article shows the struggle of Sughdians and their allies - Turks, Chach and Fergana against the Arab conquerors. In 751, a bloody Talas battle took place between troops of caliphate and Tang Empire, which decided the fate of Maverannahr. Sughd was included in the Arab caliphate.
